Atratus at the 21st Congresso ANDESCO in Columbia

In late June 2019, at the invitation of Austrade Latin America, Atratus attended the 21st Congresso ANDESCO in Cartagena, Colombia. Austrade also arranged a number of meetings with key people in the energy sector, covering generators, transmission and distribution services, researchers and policy makers.

We even managed to dip our toes in the Caribbean and joined in a fun run along the beach at Cartagena.

The meetings were a great success with an equal exchange of information. Colombian policy makers and researchers were keen to learn about Australian government programs to support the uptake of renewables, and researchers were interested in making contact with counterparts in Australia.

Our conference presentation was well received and resulted in a follow up meeting with the Deputy Minister for Energy and key policy makers. We even made it into the Colombian financial news.

There is much Australia can learn from Colombia, particularly around social equality and public transport. A country dominated for so many years by crime and violence is rapidly transforming itself as a leader in innovation and sustainable economic development.

Atratus thanks the Australian Ambassador Sophie Davies, Charge D’Affairs William Blomfield, the incredible staff at Austrade Colombia, the organisers of ANDESCO 19, and the warm and friendly people of Colombia for the opportunity to take part in the congress.
